Dear Parents, In order to keep you abreast of our standing on the state examination we have decided to publish the following results of last school year’s State Examination in ELA, Math and Science. The results of the 2016 exam are as follows: Grades 4-6-8 English Language Arts (ELA) and Math test this year, the percentage of students in these grades who scored at the proficient level (Levels 3 and 4) increased by 6 percentage points to 33, up from 27 in 2015. In math, the percentage of students who scored at the proficient level increased this year to 18, up one percentage point from 17 in 2015. In the graduating class, 67% of the students scored at Levels 3 and 4 in English language arts and 22% in mathematics. Science results indicate that 67% of the graduating class scored at proficiency levels (L3 and L4) with 86% of the fourth graders scoring similarly.
As a result of these indicators, the math teachers have identified areas in need of remediation and skill development and will be teaching these to the students while progressing in the curriculum via a spiraling approach. Parents will be asked to participate where appropriate so that there is a clear focus on remediation and the development of skills necessary to learn mathematics. Please keep in mind that many of our students are ELL students, which plays a tremendous part in how we score.
