Academic Programs


(Grades 5-8)

Students tackle hands-on challenges and projects that reinforce topics and their skills learned in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Students build airplanes, catapults, roller coasters, egg drops, balloon cars, and MORE!

Lab Learner

(Grades K-8)

Students are exposed to more hands-on science lab activities that help them explore the world around them. Experiments in biology, chemistry, earth science, and physics capture the minds of our students making them ask the important questions.


(Grades Pre-K-8)

Students are read to and encouraged to borrow books that interest them. Reading and broadening our imagination has never been more crucial to our growth. 

Honor Roll:
At the end of each trimester, academic awards will be distributed. The purpose of these awards is to recognize and congratulate those students who have earned excellent grades, evidenced cooperation, and good personal growth. The awards and the criteria are as follows:

Grades 5-8:

Principal’s List:
95 – 100% overall average with no grade less than 90%

First Honors:

90 – 94% overall average with no grade less than 85%

Second Honors:

85 – 89% overall average with no grade less than 80%

Grades 1 – 4: 

Principal’s List:
A+ overall average with no grade less than A

First Honors:

A overall average with no grade less than B+

Second Honors:
B+ overall average with no grade less than B

Honorable Mention (Effort): No failures, works to fullest potential, good conduct

For all honors, a student must earn 3’s or 4’s in all subject area progress skills and personal growth. Students who are late three or more times within a trimester will not qualify for honors.

Each trimester an assembly will be planned to present and recognize those students who have earned honor roll status. Parents will be informed and are encouraged to attend to celebrate the student’s accomplishment.

OLPH adheres to NYS Common Core and Diocesan Standards and Testing Regulations. As a requirement to these practices, the following student exams will be administered during the 2014 – 2015 school year: (Check the school calendar for exact dates)

Terra Nova Standardized Tests (Grades 3-8)
NYS ELA Assessment Exam (Grades 4, 6, 8)
NYS Mathematics Assessment Exam (Grades (4, 6, 7)
NYS Science Lab Performance Assessment NYS Science Written Assessment Exam (Grades 4, 8)

Results of these tests are shared with the parents. Students not meeting the NYS competency level will receive Academic Intervention Services (AIS).
