Dear Families:

As we go through this crisis together, there are so many needs that continue to grow. We are continually praying for you and your loved ones so that we may heal and emerge from these difficult times. We recognize the financial burden many have experienced as the school endures its own financial struggles.

Our partner scholarship organization, Futures in Education, has established a Relief Fund to assist families affected by the COVID-19 health crisis in completing their 2019/20 tuition payments.

You are invited to complete this form ONLY if your family has been directly impacted by the COVID-19 health crisis, resulting in a reduction or loss of income, and you are seeking tuition relief for the 2019/2020 academic year. Funding is very limited, and it is critical that we are able to assist those most affected by this crisis. Please only apply if your family has been affected in a way that it will not be possible for you to complete this year’s tuition payments.

We will work with Futures in Education to assess the overall need and funding received to determine how we may best help our families. The application will be open from now through May 15, 2020 and may be found at www.futuresineducation.org/covid19app.

Please alert us directly if you need this assistance so we are aware of your situation. This is a requirement of the fund.

In addition, we encourage you to apply for the regular financial aid program administered by Futures in Education for the 2020-21 academic year now, by going to  www.futuresineducation.org/scholarships

Note: Returning Teddy J. Forstmann recipients should apply for regular tuition assistance for 20-21 through Children’s Scholarship Fund/Civicore. Instructions have been emailed to you.

Please contact Futures in Education at 718.965.7340 or by email: Scholarships@FuturesinEducation.org if you have any questions or need assistance.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Tyndall

Dear Families,

As remote learning becomes part of the fabric of our current reality, it is important to create structures and expectations, which help all involved succeed and stay healthy and sane.  To that end, as we come to the close of the 3rd week of providing teaching and student learning experiences from our homes, it is important to establish schedules, but also allow for the schedule to change…

The expectations of students, and the demands of the educational community are changing radically during this COVID-19 crisis; necessarily, the role of the teacher is changing as well.  It is important as we continue with distance learning that faculty have the opportunity to participate in professional learning workshops, seminars and planning sessions.

Effective Friday, April 3, 2020, a proposal has been developed to make some shifts in the instructional week.  Moving forward, students will continue to complete all assigned work tasks, projects and activities. Teachers will have the opportunity on Fridays for:

Student Assessment: to be able to maintain and review student work/videos/photos uploaded to the Google Classroom and provide feedback in writing or by video.

Parent Outreach: to be able to contact and communicate with families the academic progress of their child(ren).

Planning/Networking: to have a designated time to devote to planning lessons and learning activities, and to be able to collaborate with colleagues remotely using technology tools (such as: Zoom, Microsoft Teams conference, Google Classroom).

Professional Development: to be able to receive further professional development.

Please note that this new model being implemented allows for students to use Friday’s as a time for some students to “catch-up” on previously assigned tasks, activities and projects, and others to work on enrichment activities.  Friday’s are not to be seen as a day off. The expectation is for students to continue their studies. Student attendance will continue to be taken on Friday’s.

We continue to thank you for being partners with us during these difficult times and wish God’s continued blessing over you and your loved ones.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Hope all is well. We are now entering week three of being out of the school building. I know this is a trying time for everyone, especially the children, who are missing social interactions with their peers, teachers and the OLPH family. Please be very mindful that our children take their cue from the adults around them, so please be careful how we speak when they are nearby, be mindful of what they watch on television and give them all the love and support you can.

Please try to keep your child occupied and safe with schoolwork and other activities to keep their little minds from what is transpiring around them. I know this might seem like a herculean task; however, we must try to keep them in some normalcy as possible. If they ask questions about the Coronavirus, please speak with them honestly, but try to do it without panicking. Speak with your child about the importance of taking necessary positive preventive measures to help them from getting sick.

The teachers and I are working hard to keep in touch with the students and you, the parents. Please know that we are all in this struggle together, and I know we will come out of this stronger than ever. Please continue to pray for us, as we will continue to pray for you. God Bless you all.

Mrs. Tyndall

Principal

P.S. Please note there will be no distance learning starting from Holy Thursday, April 9 to the 17, 2020 for the Easter break. Classes will resume on April 20, 2020.

Estimados Padres,

March 17, 2020

Good Morning Parents,

Greetings to all. This has been a very trying time for all of us, parents, teachers and students.  Due to the coronavirus we are unable to be together and this puts a strain on all of us, especially not being able to see the children. Please know that you are in our prayers and we are working hard to make sure your child’s education is not put on hold due to this crisis.

We started our first Online lessons today, and based on feedback from the teachers and several parents, I am happy to say, we are on the right track with distant learning. Just a reminder that parents can find their child’s lesson on option C  and the teacher’s page on our website.

Please remember to email the teacher by 9:00 am each day so that attendance can be taken for your child. Based on information from the government and the diocese, this distant learning will continue until April 20th, 2020.

The New York State Examinations in ELA, Math and Science will not be given this year.  Test and examination from the teachers will continue for the students of OLPH, which will be conducted online. Please speak with your child’s teacher to see when these tests will be given and how they will be graded.

As we move forward during this time, I want to assure you that all necessary precautions were taken to have the building sanitized and disinfected. The building will be locked up until the students return, except for the office. I would advise all my parents to continue to observe good health practices like isolation and hand hygiene.

The Department of education has decided for students in need of breakfast and lunch to go to their nearest public school and collect these items. Please note that your child’s safety is the most important thing and we take this quite seriously. If you need to contact me, please  send me a message at mtyndall@olphcab.org.

Please log on to Option C for the most recent update on the Coronavirus. I will do my best to always keep you informed.  Thank you for your prayers for the school and know we will continue to pray for you.

Yours in Christ,

Mrs. Margaret Tyndall

Principal
